Amaze is a one-stop shop offering information, advice and support to parents and carers of children and young people with special needs and disabilities in Brighton and Hove.
Started in 1997, it is a local charity working to empower parents to get the best for their children. AMAZE was funded with £90,000 from the ScottishPower Energy People Trust to help tackle fuel poverty among households caring for disabled children. The organisation successfully turned this into £6million for local families by helping them to claim benefits that they were entitled to.
The charity ran a three year project with one full-time member of staff supported by 10 volunteers which provided an holistic approach to alleviating fuel poverty – a term used when more than 10% of a household’s income is spent on energy bills. With a focus on income and energy efficiency, team members were trained in benefits checks, energy efficiency advice and savings advice.
