Independent Living Support - Empowering People

Ann Loughrey Company Secretary from the Scottish Power Energy People Trust, Elaine Murray MSP and MP Russell Brown attended the launch of Empowering People Plus Project which was given £60,000 to help fight against fuel poverty. ILS financial manager Elaine Colquhoun said “The funding will enable us to reach vulnerable residents in Dumfries and Galloway helping them find extra income from unclaimed benefits they are entitled to. ILS will also offer energy efficiency advice enabling residents to maximise their finances and sustain energy payments. Services such as draught proofing, thermometers, energy usage monitors and warm bed packs will be made available to the most vulnerable customers. The project will help to lift them from fuel poverty and support independent living”. Ann Loughrey said “We’re very pleased to support Independent Living Support and fund the Empowering People Plus project. Individuals struggle with fuel poverty when more than ten percent of their income is spent on energy usage, we work to alleviate this through grass root organisations such as ILS.”
