The project will provide support to women to tackle fuel poverty as part of their resettlement package. Financial abuse is a common aspect of domestic abuse and families resettling after staying in a refuge are vulnerable to fuel poverty. Our resettlement support will tackle this in three ways:
• Income maximisation – benefits check, accessing grants etc.
• Reduction in fuel bills – encouraging people to regularly ‘shop around’ for utilities
• Money management – ensuring that women have the confidence to take control of their finances
A Support Worker will work alongside women in the two refuges (one day per week) to help them gain control of their finances, maximise their income, address fears around costs of utility bills and ensure that they can move on from the refuge without moving into fuel poverty.
