West Lothian Women’s Aid aims to assist women to cover the energy costs when they first arrive in refuge (a payment of £40). Women and their children (if they have any) often arrive in refuge with nothing more than the clothes they are standing in and it can take several weeks to get any monies due to them fixed out. This would give them the freedom to know that they are free of worrying about paying for their fuel costs in the first days in refuge. The funding would also allow the women and families a small allowance toward fuel costs when they are allocated a new home (£50). A time of extra costs to the family.
